Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Services, Group Chairman of A.R.M. Holding and Chairman of Al Wasl Sports Club.
Upon graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, HH Sheikh Ahmed joined the Central Military Command in Dubai to later become the Commander in Chief of the Central Military Command. Under his stewardship, the Central Military Command developed into one of the leading military bases in the United Arab Emirates.
HH Sheikh Ahmed is the fourth and youngest son of His Highness the late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the founder and visionary architect of Dubai. His brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai.
HH Sheikh Ahmed’s business interests include the Dubai Real Estate Centre (DREC). Established in 1991, DREC today boasts more than 3200 units across the residential, commercial, retail and industrial real estate segments in Dubai under its management and operation.
In 2019, HH Sheikh Ahmed sought to consolidate his assets including real estate under one umbrella with the incorporation of A.R.M. Holding. The conglomerate is one of the biggest investment companies in the UAE and is mandated with supporting Dubai’s growth and vision of the future. Within its portfolio it holds one of the most strategic, yet to be developed land banks in Dubai, in addition to DREC and the newly established development companies Huna and Hive. Furthermore, A.R.M. Holding holds equity stakes in private and publicly listed companies in a variety of sectors globally including Education, F&B, Property, Banking, Telecommunications and Hospitality.
HH Sheikh Ahmed is an avid sportsman. In 1960 he founded Al Wasl Sports Club and one of the most popular football leagues in the UAE, Al Wasl Football Club. The football and the sports clubs have won numerous titles throughout the years and enjoy great following amongst a wide spectrum of proud fans. HH continues to serve as Chairman of Al Wasl Sports Club.
HH Sheikh Ahmed was instrumental in creating and launching Dubai International Marine Club and served as the first Chairman for the Club in 1988. The Club became the first club in the Middle East and Africa to be a member in UIM.
Following in his brothers’ footsteps HH Sheikh Ahmed also took an interest in horse racing. In 1982, his first horse, Wassl, won the Irish 2000 Guineas and the Craven Stakes. Other horses later owned by HH Sheikh Ahmed have won the 1000 Guineas, Irish Oaks, Irish St Lager, Dewhurst Stakes, Gold Cup, Dubai Golden Shaheen, UAE 2000 Guineas, Italian Derby, Prince of Wales Stakes, Coral Eclipse Stakes and Pretty Polly stakes.
In early 90s Dubai, HH Sheikh Ahmed created Jebel Ali Racecourse to promote horse racing in the UAE and launched Al Adiyat and Dubai Horse Racing Centre to support the industry. At the time HH and his team helped develop the handicapping system and other rules of racing.
